Below is a list of NGOs, charities and non-profits working on reforming prisons. Prisons in many countries around the world have inhuman conditions with over population and systemic abuse. Many are often run on a for profit basis and maintain unnecessarily high incarceration rates. These ngos and npos pressure governments on reforming prisons and also run educational and skill based programs for prison inmates to ensure they are reformed and can blend well in the society at the end of their terms.. Since 1999, SHARP has been working towards a Pakistan that respects human rights and prisoner rights by working for the human rights of vulnerable sections of society through advocacy, community service, capacity building, emergency response, and more.
Women Aid Trust (WAT) is a not for profit organization working towards prisoner welfare. It campaigns for improving the conditions of prisoners and also provides free legal help services for women prisoners. It is based in Islamabad.
