The Aging in Place Challenge program aims to support this choice through technology and innovation. The program's objectives focus on improving the quality of life of older adults and their personal caregivers through innovation for safe and healthy aging, supporting a sustainable model for long-term care by shifting focus toward preventive home and community based care. The aim is to enable nursing homes to concentrate on older adults with the highest needs while reducing costs to the Canadian health care system. The program officially launched in April 2021. Since its launch, the program funded several R&D collaborative projects and continues to do so.
